Upstairs downstairs

Art print Upstairs Downstairs inspired by Joseph Beuys featuring a concrete staircase on London's South Bank near the National Theatre.

This can be seen literally, as stairs leading to the sky or a more existentialist question about where the viewer is heading in life.

I like to capture London's architecture when it is empty, so that we can see what is often a backdrop to its residents.

It is one of a series that form a homage to German artist Joseph Beuys, translucent green bars mimicking the felt crosses that appear on many of his sculptures.
